Metro Rail paragraph
The metro rail system, akin to the traditional railway system but
modernized as an electric vehicle, serves as an urban public transport
network. Particularly crucial in densely populated areas like the capital,
Dhaka, this contemporary communication system alleviates urban congestion
and stands out for its sustainability. The Metrorail, a key alternative for
handling the influx of passengers and vehicles in Dhaka, operates under the
management of various systems, including heavy rail, light rail, and rapid
transit.
During peak hours, especially in the bustling capital with approximately one
and a half million residents, the pressure on public transport is notably
high. This global communication service is implemented in around 62 countries.
The Metrorail project, led by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, is a
pioneering effort to decongest Dhaka, progressing in three phases. The first
two segments, from Uttara to Agargaon and Agargaon to Motijheel, have been
successfully completed, with the third section, spanning from Motijheel to
Kamalapur, currently under construction.
Trains equipped with modern amenities traverse the railway lines laid on the
flyover, covering a total length of 20.01 km from Uttara to Motijheel with 16
stations. The inauguration of the Uttara to Agargaon stretch took place on
December 28, 2022, followed by the Agargaon to Motijheel section on November
4, 2023. Each of the 14 trains, comprising 6 coaches, offers spacious,
air-conditioned compartments with comfortable seating, including a dedicated
section for women. With a capacity to accommodate 942 seated passengers and
574 standing passengers, fares can be paid through automated cards at the
machines.
Metro rail services not only promote eco-friendliness and accessibility
throughout the city but also contribute to economic development around the
stations. Stringent security measures ensure the well-being of passengers, and
the anticipated completion of the Metrorail project is set for 2025.
